Group 1 Reflection Zuming Zhang
The first group presentation was well
given the circumstances, as I delivered my portion perfectly well and had good
confidence in myself. Although at the behest of my classmate’s opinions I have
started to work on my tempo and rhythm for such speeches in the future. Overall,
everyone did great in my team. Although they were all nervous and delivered
their lines in a very anxious way, they conveyed their own ideas and
information in a fantastic way. Within the first chapter and the second chapter
we went over the basic ideas of speech and the history of speech. History is
most usually my best subject and a passion of mine of having that portion of
the presentation having something about history really helped me get my footing
during my presentation. Also, additionally group 1 slides or presentation being
the general guideline of a good presentation has given me a lot of ideas for
what to do in the future when it regards presentations. Having a vital
understanding of the audience and understanding the ability of all humans to
relate to one another, Really does accentuates a speech to become an
impressively competent one. The slides were in general great as I speak for
myself as I believe that to give a good presentation one should get people to
focus on your specific subject of speech at that moment and not distract them
with words upon words on a slide.
Group 2
was also equally good, although their slides were quite cluttered so at times,
I would lose focus on what they are saying to gather myself back into their
presentation as I have to search for what info they are currently talking
about. As they talked about audience relations in a speech and public speaking
and what it is to understand the audience. As you want to keep the audience’s
attention by having them engaged. Most of the time this is done by aligning
your speech with their interest such as in a classroom you want to speak in a
casual manner while in a business meeting you want to have a professional
vocabulary. But also, one of the most important parts is to remember that your
purpose of public speaking is that you want to keep that main idea throughout
the speech so as not to confuse people. Or in another sense remind people throughout
your speech what you are going over and allow a moment to give the audience
time to digest it all. Of course, you have to remember the most important part
of presenting information is to give the audience trust in the information you
are feeding them vis showing credible sources of information from government
websites and educational and or organizations are all very good forms of
getting and showing proof in your speech. Overall group 2 had a great
presentation that went over especially important aspects of a good speech and
talk that is very vital to the success of the event.
Group 3
was really amazing I would like to say, especially with the person doing the
special effects section as he had a perfect rhythm and perfectly captured the audience’s
attentions. Moreover, having control over the showing of information by
clicking and showing specific text at a certain point in the speech allows the
audience to have the information clearly received and not distracted. Even more
so as they went over the importance of ambiance such as music that can enhance
a scene such as a busy road to show the audience how annoying and tedious
driving is at times for a speech targeted towards the audience members who
drive. Also utilizing videos and images to give impact further really to the
audience and show what you mean by giving a visual image along side with a
verbal one. Also how to deliver a speech is another aspect that their group
goes over as in how one look does when they present their ideas and main
thesis. Do you look confident and trustworthy or knowledgeable? This can be achieved
usually by dressing in a professional manner that allows you to be seen in a
respectable light. Also having a great posture and smile goes a long way for
people to fully trust and open their hearts to the speaker. As you require to
be connected to the audience before they take in any information, or the
speaker can truly start their speech.
Group 4
was the perfect way to close the first few presentations of this class. As they
go over the many forms of speaking that can be used to fit any situation
needed. Say you are trying to convince a body of people about the importance to
allow the passing of a law then that requires persuasive public speaking as you
need to speak in a manner that gets people attention, but not only that but to
also share your ideals as well by the end. There is also when you are giving
either a class talk about a subject for an assignment or to tell a group of
board members about a new project. These can be referred to as informative
speeches. As they go over the nitty gritty details of the work and information
within the text and give lots of information for the audience member to be
better known of the idea shown. Lastly of course being argumentative speaking
as it requires the speaker to take a side and talk about a subject they are
rooting for and to do the same as persuasive speech, but in a much more direct
way. In stead of slightly nudging the audience into agreeing with the speaker
by the end of it the argumentative takes the offensive and takes what they can
to boost the side they are rooting for in the end. Overall, it is my belief
that everyone did well and there are a lot of places in which I can improve my
craft of public speaking.
Excellent post!!
